Candle Care

Caring for your Aroma Sunshine Candle

Thank you for welcoming an Aroma Sunshine Candle into your home. Each candle is hand-poured in small batches using premium natural wax and a natural wooden wick to create beautiful, gentle crackling ambience.

Wooden wick candles burn differently from cotton wick candles. Following these simple steps care tips will help you enjoy a cleaner burn, stronger fragrance throw, and a longer-lasting candle.

BEFORE YOUR FIRST BURN

The first burn is the most important.

Allow your candle to burn until the melted wax reaches almost the entire edge of the jar. This usually takes 3 - 4 hours, this helps prevent tunnelling, where wax remains around the edges and reduces the candle's lifespan.

TRIM YOUR WOODEN WICK

Unlike cotton wicks, wooden wicks perform best when kept very short.

Before every burn: Remove away all black, charred wood until only 3-5mm remains.

A short wick creates:

  • A steadier flame
  • Less soot
  • Better fragrance performance
  • A cleaner, slower burn

If your wick becomes too long, the flame may become too large or begin smoking.

LIGHTING YOUR WOODEN WICK

Wooden wicks require a little patience.

  1. Hold the flame against the wick for 10-20 seconds.
  2. Allow the wood to ignite fully
  3. Once lit, the flame should settle into a calm, gentle burn.

If the Flame goes out on the first attempt, simply relight it.

BURN TIME

For the best performance:

  • Burn between 2 and 4 hours at a time.
  • Do not burn for more than 4 hours continuously.

After extinguishing, allow the candle to cool completely before relighting.

EXTINGUISHING YOUR CANDLE

The safest methods are:

  • Candle snuffer
  • Wick dipper
  • Gently blowing the flame out

Avoid placing the lid over a burning candle.

KEEP THE WAX CLEAN

Keep the wax free from:

  • Matches
  • Wick trimming
  • Dust
  • Decorative objects
  • Debris

A clean wax surface helps ensure an even burn.

SAFETY

Always:

  • Place the candle on a heat-resistant surface.
  • Keep away from children and pets.
  • Keep away from curtains, paper and flammable materials.
  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Burn in a well-ventilated room away from strong drafts or fans.

Stop burning when approximately 10mm (1cm) of wax remains at the bottom of the jar.

COMMON WOODEN WICK QUESTIONS

My candle won't stay lit.

This is the most common issue with wooden wicks and is usually easy to solve.

Possible causes:

  • Wick is too long
  • Burned wood has built up on the wick
  • Melt pool has drowned the wick

Solution

Trim away all black, charred wood until only 3-5 mm remains, then relight.

The flame is very small.

A small flame is often normal for wooden wicks.

However, if it seems unusually low:

  • Trim away the charred wood.
  • Ensure no melted wax is covering the wick.
  • Allow the candle a few minutes to establish a steady flame.

My candle tunnels.

Tunnelling happens when the candle isn't burned long enough during the first few burns.

How to prevent it

Always allow the wax to melt close to the edge of the jar before extinguishing.

The flame went out by itself.

This usually means:

  • The wick needs trimming
  • The wick has become buried in melted wax.
  • Air movement extinguished the flame.

Allow the candle to cool, trim the wick and relight.

My wick looks black.

This is completely normal.

The black section is simply charred wood and should be removed before the next burn.

My candle is smoking.

Smoking usually means the wick is too long.

Trim it back 3-5mm before relighting.

There is wax left around the edges.

This is called wax hang-up and is common during the first few burns.

As the candle continues to burn, the wax usually melts away naturally.

My candle has memory.

Candle develop a "memory" based on the first burn.

If extinguished too early, future burns tend to follow the same smaller melt pool.

That's why the first burn is so important.

Storage

To keep your candle looking and smelling its best:

  • Store in a cool, dry place.
  • Keep away from direct sunlight.
  • Replace the lid after the candle has cooled.
  • Avoid extreme temperatures.
